No Ordinary Park

A free bus tour beckoned and I was booked to go on a freezing cold day to see how the Olympic Park would be transformed through building revisions into The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 2013.

The tour guide was excellent and made a gloomy day brighter. Much of the descriptions were by now tinged with an heritage persuasion as what was in August 2012 can never be repeated. Interestingly the shambolic graffiti on old warehouses on the banks of the River Lea is  visible: The vegetation, sparse in its wintry brown, is no longer a screen. The houseboats are still, parked up.  Teams of security guards were nowhere to be seen.  It was a Saturday. Works’ buses weren’t spilling out gangs of young workers. The Park was desolate today.
