The People’s Museum in Stratford E15

Went along to a booked free session for a talk by a senior. The museum is almost opposite Gala Bingo going towards Bow and is actually only temporary. The speaker read to us all about Woolwich and Silvertown. It was great just to sit and listen to eye witness accounts of the days of the London Docks. Refreshments were served before we watched a short film about Canning Town. I learnt some stuff and then had a look at a remarkable art exhibition displaying paintings done by local artists with disabilities. Is that Parapaintings?

The Museum is a treasure of displays  on working class history, Eastside; That’s east London and the Docklands. Held there are thousands of photographs and oral histories.

I find it a comfortable, welcoming and honest place. The Olympics and Paralympics have vanished now and taken their hype jargon with them. Now we can get back to true east end discoveries, hidden histories, and indulge in projects to which many seniors can relate. Totes amaze.
